الأسئلة الشائعة

Why do so many candidates choose the wrong answer in IELTS listening multiple choice?
The examiners deliberately include words from the options in the wrong parts of the recording — this is called distractor language. Candidates hear a familiar word and select that option, but the correct answer often uses different words to express the same idea (paraphrase). Train yourself to listen for meaning and synonyms, not just identical vocabulary.
Should I read the questions and options before the recording starts?
Yes — absolutely. Time is allocated in the test instructions for you to read the questions before each section begins. Use it to read the question stem and underline key words in each option. Predict what type of information you are listening for: a place? a day? an opinion? This focused prediction significantly improves accuracy and reduces the chance of being caught off-guard by distractors.
What should I do if I miss an answer during the recording?
Mark your best guess immediately — even a random one — and move on without hesitation. The recording does not pause, and staying focused on the missed question means missing the next answer too. On paper IELTS you have 10 minutes to transfer answers to the answer sheet; on computer IELTS you get 2 minutes to review. An educated guess is always better than a blank.
