What is the difference between 'How are you?' and 'How do you do?'
'How are you?' is an everyday neutral greeting — answer with 'Fine, thank you' or 'Not bad'. 'How do you do?' is a formal British greeting used only at a first meeting; it is not a real question — the correct reply is simply 'How do you do?' It is rarely used in modern spoken English outside very formal contexts.
When should I use 'Good morning', 'Good afternoon', and 'Good evening'?
Use 'Good morning' before noon and 'Good afternoon' from noon into the later part of the day. 'Good evening' is used in the evening; the exact point at which afternoon gives way to evening varies by context and convention. 'Good night' is a farewell, not a greeting — say it when leaving at the end of the evening, never when you first meet someone.
Is 'My name is…' or 'I'm…' more natural for introducing yourself?
Both are correct. 'My name is Sara' is slightly more formal and clear, making it ideal for introductions at a job interview or in a class. 'I'm Sara' is more relaxed and natural in everyday conversation. You can combine them: 'Hi, I'm Sara — my full name is Sara Al-Ahmad.'
